I know that COVID-19 is weighing heavily on the minds of Edmontonians.
We have seen a failure of leadership in our province. And our city deserves better.
Below are the seven actions I will take as Mayor to help limit transmission, boost vaccinations, and keep Edmonton safe.
3. I will ask City Administration to identify City buildings and locations—such as libraries—that can host mobile vaccine clinics, and work with Alberta Health and AHS to set them up as quickly as possible.
4. I will listen to the experts. Working with my Council colleagues, I will strike an advisory committee to help inform our decisions on public health and pandemic measures.
5. I support the call for door-to-door outreach in communities with lower vaccination rates. As Mayor, I will convene the community and engage volunteers, community and faith organizations, and local businesses to help with this effort.
6. I support the City’s decision to implement a vaccine mandate for staff and to require proof of vaccination at recreation centres.
7. I support the approach the City of Calgary has taken with its Vaccine Passport Bylaw—requiring businesses to implement it—and would introduce a motion to adopt a similar program for Edmonton.
This pandemic affects us all. Now is the time for our community to come together—at all levels of government—and support each other.
