How I lead, how we campaign
June 23, 2021

One of Canada’s greatest strengths is its free and fair elections. It is the right of every citizen to be able to put their name forward and share their ideas for how they would serve. While there may be disagreements on how to achieve a better city, province or country, I believe most people who stand up have their community’s best interest at heart.

A person’s right to a democratic voice has always been important to me, starting with advocacy for labour rights as a bus driver to my time as a federal minister. Our democracy does not benefit when elections are decided by any factor other than by the ideas of the candidates and their supporters.

The values of honesty, fairness, and inclusivity are my core tenets, and so they are the basis of my campaign. If I am elected mayor, I want it to be because Edmontonians believe my leadership will reflect those values.

I expect anyone helping with my campaign to share that perspective, which is why I ask every volunteer to commit to the code of conduct below. I am sharing our volunteer code of conduct so there is no doubt how I will lead until the election—and after, should Edmontonians put their trust in me.

#TeamSohi Volunteer Code

Amarjeet believes in an Edmonton for everyone. That belief forms the basis for the campaign, and the conduct of all of its volunteers, whether they’re working out in the field delivering signs or dropping off literature, involved in outreach or fundraising, engaging online or doing anything else on the campaign.

Our conduct is one way we set our campaign apart. As Amarjeet’s representatives and volunteers, we will always behave in ways that will attract people to us. We will be a beacon of positivity focused on our vision of making Edmonton a better place for all.

As members of #TeamSohi, we believe:

Every Edmontonian deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. No matter who we meet with, we have the opportunity to listen and learn from Edmontonians while we share our ideas to make this city better. Whether or not they support us, everyone we meet should feel heard and valued.

Every campaign deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Political campaigns are often divisive—but they shouldn’t be. The other folks running in this election are demonstrating courage and citizenship by putting themselves and their visions for the city forward. Even if we don’t agree with a campaign’s views, that doesn’t mean we should speak ill of them or engage with them in negative ways. Remember, this is about sharing our vision for Edmonton with citizens.

Everything we do is a reflection on Amarjeet. Amarjeet has been clear about the kind of campaign he wants to run: one that focuses on what’s great about Edmonton, and what’s possible for Edmontonians. It is our collective responsibility to make this campaign about listening to people’s concerns, sharing our views, and maintaining a positive attitude with every interaction we have.

We have a tremendous opportunity before us: to help elect the right person for our times to be mayor of Edmonton. Let’s show this city what positivity and vision can do.

Welcome to #TeamSohi
