Welcome to Sohi.ca!

Thanks for visiting the new Sohi.ca! A new website is part of my commitment to making it easier for you to get involved.

As an elected leader, involving citizens in Council decisions is a fundamental responsibility. A healthy democracy relies on citizens being informed and involved, but the onus is on leaders to be accessible and to make information available.

The ways that we’ve reached out to citizens in the past are positive, but they’re no longer enough.

In a changing society, not everyone can spend a day at a Public Hearing, so we need to be online and available. Not everyone reads a printed newspaper – we need to get information directly to you so it works for you. Not everyone has time to phone their Councillor, so we need to be open to online debate.

Above all, we need to respond to your needs.

The new Sohi.ca is designed to help me respond to you. You can comment on any news item, subscribe to the RSS feed for regular updates, or subscribe to my e-newsletter. I promise to read every comment on the site and to respond whenever possible.

The site has fresh information on major issues in the news and on my priorities – if you want information on something else, let me know and I’ll provide it.

City Council is working hard to be more responsive: we formed a Citizen Panel to make recommendations on the City Budget, and the new Great Neighbourhoods program will enhance consultation in neighbourhoods. As individual Councillors, though, we need to stay responsive to our constituents. Keep me posted on your needs – meeting them is my job!

Hello !
I am very upset with the recent incident of yet another edmonton transit driver ( tom bregg) being assaulted.
I, too knew Tom as a bus driver , having seen him sometimes daily @ westwood bus garage.
Myself.Having also being assaulted in May/2009 ,I chose to resign, NOT because of the assault...But instead of the Total Lack of Concern from everyone at transit.
Tom never had a bad word about anyone.

We live near the Hewes Park that the city was working on all last summer and have left the area around the lake unfinished. We are curious as to what is planned and how soon grass will be planted.
Another matter that concerns us is the 28 st road between 66st. and Hewes way. Can it be smoothed out till its redone in 2011?

The municipal government is the best at democracy because of its closer link and knowledge of the people. the municipal government can easily cater to the citizens needs because it has so little people to care for. to top it off, municipal politicians are elected by the people according to different sections of a city.Safety
