In recognition of national Family Literacy Day, the centre was hosting this breakfast to celebrate the winners of the Lois Hole Memorial Literacy Awards. The centre has established to awards to honour individuals, organizations and businesses that have demonstrated a commitment of literacy is Alberta.

I was pleased to know that Mill Woods Christian School was nominated for one of the award for their outstanding commitment to literacy in Alberta.

Grade 11 students from this school have volunteered their time to help improve literacy at Grace Martin School. They have done that through volunteering their time at Grace Martin school through interacting with students during lunch supervision and by reading with the students.  Each student was also required to produce a literacy bag which included a book and several props that relate to the story.

This year the school hopes to build about 70 literacy bags and donate over 1000 hours of time to the project.

Congratulations to the students and the staff of Mill Woods Christian School for this wonderful initiative and giving back to the community and improving the school experience of Grace Martin School students.
